About the role
Design at our company is not decoration — it is the primary driver of customer trust in a product that handles people's money. We are looking for a UX/UI Designer who has the research skills to understand what our customers truly need and the craft skills to design experiences that feel inevitable. In this role you will lead design for our consumer mobile app and our customer-facing web portal. You will own the full design process from discovery through to developer handoff: conducting user research, mapping customer journeys, creating wireframes and interactive prototypes, building and maintaining our design system, producing high-fidelity Figma designs, and collaborating closely with our Flutter and React engineers to ensure implementation quality. You bring deep empathy for users and an understanding of how context shapes interaction. Our customers are a diverse group — from university students in Kampala saving for fees, to market traders in Kisumu managing float, to salaried professionals in Nairobi investing for retirement. You understand how to design for this breadth without patronising anyone. You design for small screens first. You know that our users are often distracted, in bright sunlight, with one hand free, and you design for that reality. Your skills include: user research (interviews, usability testing, card sorting), information architecture, interaction design, visual design, Figma (including auto-layout, components, variables, and prototyping), accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), and a working understanding of Flutter and React constraints so that your designs are always buildable. Experience designing financial services products — particularly around payments, data visualisation for financial information, and onboarding flows — is a strong advantage. We offer a competitive salary, Figma Enterprise licence, remote flexibility, an annual design conference budget, and the chance to build a design function that genuinely matters.
