About the role

Savannah Pay's backend runs on Kubernetes and we need a DevOps Engineer who will set up and maintain the infrastructure that keeps the platform running reliably at scale. This is a contract role covering the first nine months of the project, with a strong possibility of a long-term infrastructure management retainer post-launch. Your initial deliverables: provision the AWS EKS cluster using Terraform; configure the cluster with proper namespaces, resource quotas, network policies, and pod security standards; set up the CI/CD pipeline in GitHub Actions that builds, tests, and deploys each microservice; configure the observability stack with Prometheus, Grafana, and alerts to PagerDuty; set up AWS RDS Aurora PostgreSQL with read replicas and automated backups; configure ElastiCache Redis clusters for session and idempotency storage; manage SSL certificates through AWS Certificate Manager; and implement the secrets management strategy using AWS Secrets Manager. Post-launch you will be responsible for capacity planning, cost optimisation, performance tuning, and security patching. You will be on a light on-call rotation and you will participate in post-mortems for any production incidents. You bring experience with AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions CI/CD. Experience with multi-region deployments is a bonus given our pan-African ambitions. Experience securing financial services infrastructure and implementing PCI-DSS controls is highly valued.
