Mobile Engineer — Flutter (Android & iOS)

About the role

Our mobile app is the primary touchpoint for over two hundred thousand customers, and we are looking for a Mobile Engineer who will help us build an experience that is fast, reliable, and genuinely delightful — even on entry-level Android devices running on slow networks. You will work alongside our lead mobile engineer to build and maintain our Flutter application for both Android and iOS. You will implement new product features, improve app performance, reduce crash rates, and ensure our UI meets WCAG accessibility standards. You will be deeply involved in architecture decisions, including how we manage state, handle offline scenarios, sync data with the backend, and structure our feature modules. We particularly need someone who understands the challenges of mobile development in African markets. Our users are on a wide range of devices — from Samsung Galaxy A-series to Tecno Spark to older iPhones. Many of them have limited storage, intermittent connectivity, and are using mobile data that costs real money. Every megabyte of our app size matters. Every unnecessary network round-trip matters. You bring sensitivity to these constraints and you design features with them in mind. Your responsibilities include: implementing Figma designs with pixel-perfect accuracy using Flutter widgets, managing app state with Riverpod, integrating with our REST APIs and handling edge cases gracefully, implementing offline-first data patterns using Hive and SQLite, integrating Daraja M-Pesa SDK for in-app payments, writing unit and widget tests, managing releases through Fastlane to the Play Store and App Store, and monitoring crash rates and performance through Firebase Crashlytics and Sentry. Our stack is Flutter 3.x, Dart, Riverpod, Hive, Dio, Firebase (Auth, Crashlytics, Remote Config), Fastlane, and GitHub Actions. Experience with BLE or NFC for POS integrations is a bonus.
