Backend Engineer (Real-Time) — LogiTrack

About the role

LogiTrack's core value is real-time visibility and you will build the engine that makes it possible. You will own the real-time data processing pipeline that ingests GPS pings from thousands of vehicles simultaneously, computes vehicle states, triggers geofence alerts, detects anomalies, and delivers updates to the web dashboard and mobile app in under two seconds end-to-end. The pipeline architecture: GPS trackers publish location events to AWS IoT Core; events flow into Kafka topics partitioned by vehicle ID; Kafka Streams processors compute vehicle state (moving, stopped, geofence entry/exit, speeding, route deviation) and publish state change events; a Node.js WebSocket server subscribes to state change events and pushes updates to connected dashboard clients; TimescaleDB stores the full location history with automatic data retention policies. You will implement hypertable partitioning in TimescaleDB optimised for the query patterns of route replay and historical analysis. Beyond the pipeline, you will build: the polygon geofencing engine with spatial indexing using PostGIS; the route adherence monitor that compares actual GPS track against planned route; the fuel theft detection algorithm that combines GPS mileage and fuelling event data; and the REST APIs for fleet management operations consumed by the web dashboard. Strong candidates have experience with Kafka, time-series databases, and real-time system design. Experience with IoT event processing, geospatial systems (PostGIS), or fleet telematics is highly desirable. This is a demanding role with strict latency requirements.
