React Native Engineer — FarmConnect Mobile

About the role

The FarmConnect farmer app is the primary interface through which smallholder farmers will manage their produce sales, access inputs, and receive AI agronomic advice. You will build this application in React Native targeting Android first (Kenya has ninety percent Android market share) with offline-first architecture for farmers in areas with unreliable connectivity. Key features you will build: the farmer onboarding flow with mobile number OTP authentication and farm registration with GPS polygon mapping of farm plots; the produce listing flow where farmers can photograph their harvest, enter quantities, and submit for marketplace listing; the order management screen showing pending, confirmed, and completed produce orders; the AI advisory chat interface with WhatsApp-style conversation UI; input browsing and ordering with SACCO credit application; and push notifications for order updates. The GPS farm mapping feature deserves special attention — you will implement a Google Maps-based polygon drawing tool that allows farmers to walk their field boundaries and have the app automatically calculate area. This data feeds into the AI advisory engine and is used for input quantity recommendations. You will use React Navigation 6 for routing, Zustand for state management, React Query for server state, MMKV for persistent storage, and react-native-maps for the geospatial features. The app must work offline for advisory content and produce photography, with sync-on-connection for submissions.
