About the role
We are exploring the integration of blockchain-based rails for cross-border remittance and decentralised savings products, and we need a Blockchain Developer to lead this technical exploration and initial implementation. This is an exciting greenfield contract role where you will have significant autonomy to propose architecture and shape how we approach Web3. Your primary deliverable will be a production-ready smart contract system on a EVM-compatible chain (we are evaluating Celo given its alignment with African financial inclusion) that enables: non-custodial savings pools with automatic yield through DeFi protocol integrations, peer-to-peer remittance with fiat on/off ramps via our existing M-Pesa infrastructure, and on-chain proof of savings history for credit scoring. You will also build a React-based frontend interface for interacting with these contracts and a backend service using ethers.js that bridges our existing Node.js platform with the chain. You are deeply proficient in Solidity and understand EVM internals well enough to optimise gas costs for operations that will be performed by customers with modest transaction budgets. You have experience with OpenZeppelin contracts, hardhat for local development and testing, and Slither or similar tools for static analysis. You understand common smart contract vulnerabilities — reentrancy, integer overflow, access control issues — and you write tests that specifically target them. You have published smart contracts to mainnet and you understand the irreversibility of what you are deploying. Experience with the Celo ecosystem, stable coins (cUSD, USDC), and DeFi protocols like Aave or Compound is highly desirable. Experience building fiat-to-crypto on-ramp integrations with African payment providers is a significant advantage. This is a contract engagement with a clear deliverable set, competitive rates, and a strong possibility of conversion to a full-time role if the initiative proceeds.
